∞ Bertie Blackman ≈

When you consider the fact that she is probably the first artist to ever get her big break singing a song about her pants (we’re deliberately discounting “Safety Dance” here), you’d have to agree that Bertie Blackman is one out of the box. The song was “Favourite Jeans” from her debut album Headway and it was released 8 years ago, which is incredibly hard to believe as it feels like Bertie is just getting started. From her early incarnation as a guitar toting indie queen, the magnificent Ms Blackman has transformed herself into the electronic songstress we know today. Tracks like “Fast Bitch”, “Thump”, “Byrds of Prey” and latest single “Mercy Killer” have seen Bertie’s reputation grow exponentially with each release. Her latest album Pope Innocent X will be her fourth, and you get the sense there will be many more to come from this Sydney gem.
